Green With Envy

Hello Glam & Sassy loves! I just wrapped up showing the W by Worth Spring 2017 collection. I had so much fun styling my amazing clients in the hottest trends for the season. We were all ready, myself included, for a fresh start and new adventures. Changing of the seasons will do that to us Glam & Sassy girls and I absolutely embrace it! Once you get stuck in a rut, fashion or otherwise, the bravest thing you can do is decide to break away from it and take a chance on something new. Here are a few ways I suggest to make that happen.

Make a Clean Break:

Routines are nice and even necessary in some instances. However, fashion should never be mundane. You should change things up a bit from time to time. Don’t keep going back to an old standby just because it is what you are comfortable with. Have fun putting together outfits and add a few elements of surprise . A great way to do this is to mix textures and patterns. If you look at your clothes, and all you see are a bunch of solid colors (and I am going to guess mostly black) then there is no better time to add stripes and prints!  Both are very on trend and very Glam & Sassy.

The Grass is Absolutely Greener:

Another way to reawaken your wardrobe is to add color to your closet. The palettes right now are as vibrant as the season itself… Heat Red, Malibu Blue and Grass Green. The amazing thing is everyone I styled in these shades could wear them no matter what hair color or skin tone. Not only does that make my job easier, it makes getting dressed so enticing. Discovering you can have something you didn’t think you could is a great euphoria. Go after it and enjoy it.

Everything is Replaceable:

Every well planned wardrobe consists of basics. Basic tees, denim and blouses. Take a look at your essentials every spring and decide what needs updating. A tell tale sign something no longer needs to be in your life is if it no longer excites you. I was thrilled to find the perfect button down that was an improved version of what I already had.  Making the switch was a no brainer because I was definitely trading up!  If you worry that you might regret letting something go, I can assure you, you won’t. In fact, you will love your new additions so much, there will be virtually zero memory of what once was. Now go out and flaunt your new looks and make everyone wish they were as Glam & Sassy as you!

The Girlfriend Experience

Hello Glam & Sassy loves.  Did you know it is only 55 more days till Spring?  That is the good news. The bad news is we have to first survive the most painful day of the year between now and then. It comes in February and no it is not Groundhog Day as I would surely endure six more weeks of winter a lot easier than I can this bullshit holiday called Valentine’s Day. If there were any way to eliminate it from our lives, I would be all for it. Now you may think I have such a strong dislike for the day which is February 14th because I am single. Or am I?  Single or not, I refuse to put pressure on myself or my partner to make a fuss over each other just because the stores are pushing retail sales in the form of a red heart. I deserve to have a fuss made over me everyday and I absolutely do the same in return.  Besides, haven’t we all noticed by now that the service and food on this night are hurried and mediocre at best, and all that candy makes me have to work out even harder to be beach ready. So what would I rather be doing on this day besides putting on a red dress and getting overpriced flowers?  I am not sure yet, but I can tell you it won’t be sitting across from someone looking at his phone while I am looking at mine and wishing we were somewhere else. I want attention but I want it organically. The kind that pours out of one person and into the other because you can’t seem to give it or receive it enough. Did I get your attention yet? Good. Welcome to my world of being Glam & Sassy.

The Perfect Look

Hello Glam & Sassy loves.  How many times how you already heard “New Year, New You” and it is only mid January? I understand why the fresh turn of the calendar year makes us feel like we are embarking on a fresh start, but the truth is, we can reinvent ourselves at anytime. As a personal stylist, my mission is assisting women in achieving this goal. Some clients want me to put together an entire wardrobe and others just want a few improvements to their current style.  Either way, I am passionate about what I do, so here are a few ways I perfect a look.

Enjoy Multiples:

Two is better than one and three is better than…well you get the point. I tell clients all the time, once you find that perfect pant, shoe, basic top, etc. , get one in every color. If you don’t, inevitably you end up searching to  find something else you like just as much. We all know the likelihood of that is slim, so splurge now and save time later.  Here is a great example. I love this basic long sleeve “buy now wear now” top from W by Worth and love it even more that I get 12 times the fun with all these vibrant colors! Bring on the multiples because you are Glam & Sassy and deserve nothing less than the best…over and over again.

Something Special:

Once you are dressed, add one thing that would make it more special. I always add sparkle and bracelets are my accessory of choice. I stack bracelets like arm candy and yes it is totally ok to mix metals.  I am obsessed with this rose gold cuff from Kendra Scott. If you are not into jewelry (gasp!), add a scarf with the colors of your outfit to pull it all together.  When you are headed out for date night or girl’s night, please don’t even think about using your daily driver handbag. Instead, switch it up to a cute clutch or cross body. Nothing says high maintenance like a huge bag filled with useless items.  Don’t forget to spritz perfume in the air and walk into it before walking out the door. By the way, your bathroom vanity doesn’t have to look like the fragrance counter at Saks. Experiment to find one that works best with your body’s natural chemistry and make it your signature scent. When people ask what you’re wearing, feel free to not tell them. Remember, this is your little secret, ladies.

Own It:

I am a girly girl. Even though I can hang with the guys and was brought up around cars,  I am not really into sports (although I recently developed an interest for basketball).  I’m a huge fan of pink champagne and I prefer shopping to almost any other activity. I think of it as keeping up with industry trends and if some of them just happen to end up in my closet, then so be it.  However, what I enjoy dressing up (or down) in is not what I think everyone should wear.  The single most important element in perfecting your look is exactly that…make it yours. There is only one you and so many outfit choices, so be sure to choose the one that suits your personality and lifestyle. Then walk into any room and own it like any good Glam & Sassy would.

The Non-Negotiables

Hello Glam & Sassy loves!  As we gain experience in life, we discover things we need to be happy.  This is true of relationships, careers, and hobbies. It is also the case in our wardrobes. No self respecting woman would settle for anything less than a closet containing certain key pieces.  In defining the non-negotiables/ essentials/ must have’s…they are items that are high in quality, versatile, and long lasting. Commitment-phobes need not continue to read because it only makes sense to invest if the plan is to keep them around for while.  Now that you  have gotten rid of those things in your closet that have been taking up space since reading my last blog, Breaking Up, you are ready to replace with clothing that is actually worthy of you.

The Perfect Partner:

For those of you who remember the movie, Jerry McGuire, the line “You complete me” had ladies swooning.  Are you looking for YOUR perfect missing piece? I suggest something versatile enough to wear as a power suit with pants, a classic look with a skirt, or casual with jeans. A perfectly proportioned jacket with a flattering cut and beautiful fabric will check all these boxes.  If your budget allows you to invest in only one, then black is the obvious choice for a polished look.  Since you will want to wear it year round, choose a cotton/ viscose blend that won’t be too hot in the summer and the bonus is this fabric also travels well and who doesn’t love to travel!  I am obsessed with this Tonal Mini Jacquard jacket from W by Worth.  With it’s subtle sheen, it is sure to outshine the rest.

Trade Up:

I am going to skip the LBD as I feel it is safe to assume we all have at least two, and if we are being honest, the actual number is the that times three. So before you allow yourself to be tempted by yet another, go for something you will wear again and again, a little white dress.  A white dress for spring and summer is so fresh and bold. It will definitely stand out among the sea of black.  Accessories will change the look from day to evening , as will shoes. Stop the insanity of being attracted to something similar to what you just purged from your life, and go with the complete opposite. It will be a refreshing change and you will love the stretch in this cotton denim dress as show off your new look.

Head Turner:

Another must have, at least for me, is attraction.  This is a non-negotiable for sure! Call me shallow, but I crave anything that is appealing to the eye. What is the point of getting dressed, if your outfit doesn’t turn a few heads? Novelty prints and basic silhouettes are fine, but to up your wow factor, experimentation is key. Try one of this season’s trends, off the shoulder tops. So soft. So sexy. So easy to style with jeans, joggers, or shorts.  Slip into one before you slip out the door and just watch what happens when you look Glam & Sassy .

Breaking Up

Hello Glam & Sassy loves!  We have all been through it. The dreaded break up.  Whether you were the break up-er or the break up-ee, it is never easy at the time.  Luckily, we eventually get over it and it makes for a good story at parties.  My worst break up was the equivalent to the episode of Sex and the City when Berger breaks up with Carrie on a Post It note. However, instead of a post it, mine was via text. At 8am. Right before I was boarding a flight from CA to NJ. So not only was I devastated by the blindsided dumping, I also had to suffer in silence on a 5 1/2 hour flight as to not have my row mates think I was some crazy chick AND with no communication to the outside world.  I mean, if there is ever a time a girl needs to cry to her bff or get anti heartbreak advice from  mom, this was it. It was so awful at the time, but now, I laugh about how pathetic it was and here I am blogging about it!  Just as relationships reach their expiration date, so do some items in our closets.  Keep reading for a few looks that are ready to be kicked to the curb.

Gray Area:

In our closets, much like relationships, there shouldn’t be any unknowns.  If you are wondering if a particular top has seen better days, then it is probably time to retire it.  Also, if any formerly white tees or tanks are looking dull, please replace with a crisp new version.  Anything that has lost its luster just isn’t worth taking up valuable real estate in your closet. I love this poly peach tank from W by Worth styled with destructed denim and wedges. The fabric feels so amazing on my skin and the color is “Optic White” with a brightness that shines!

Finding the perfect match is reason to celebrate!

Sole Mates:

Sometimes in life, no matter hard you try to repair something, after a while you realize you just have to bid it adieu. The same goes for shoes. If heels are worn down or soles are scuffed beyond their red recognition, to the goodwill they must go. I know it is difficult when you are so attached and they are oh so comfortable, but comfort isn’t reason enough to keep something in your life.  And who knows, your old footwear faves may find a new owner that is happy with them.  See, you did something good for someone else and now you have an excuse to bring home the ones you have been eying up for weeks now. My all time favorite shoe is the YSL Tribute .  They are perfect with everything from denim to dresses, desk to dancing. As every mate should be.

Use it or Lose It:

The rule of thumb is if you haven’t worn something in a year, the chances that you ever will are slim. The reasoning behind this is, if it made you happy, you would’ve enjoyed showing it off by now. Life is too short to waste time thumbing through your closet through undesirable clothes.  To avoid this in the future, purchase investment pieces…classically chic fashions that are made well and that you will be able to wear year after year.  Some basic must haves are a versatile blazer, an all occasion dress, and flirty top to style with your favorite jeans.  Stay tuned next week for my blog on those essential items. Breaking up is hard, but looking Glam & Sassy is the reward… and the best revenge.

Worth It

Hello Glam & Sassy loves!  Are you counting down the days till spring like I am? Soon we will be able to start shedding heavy layers of clothing and wear shoes that don’t require socks!  Whoo hoo! While seeking clothing lines to style my clients (and myself) this year, I was very excited to find W by Worth.  W is a luxury, on-trend fashion brand with a design philosophy to empower women through style. Amazing and I instantly fell crazy in love! That doesn’t happen often in life so when it does, you’ve got to jump all in. So I did by playing dress up in all of the cute dresses and flirty tops.   Check out these city chic looks from W by Worth that I had so much fun putting together for spring.

You want to look hot even in the cold.  I love this cozy 3/4 sleeve sweater to layer over a tank top styled with dark denim jeans and accessorized with a printed scarf.  You can swap the open toe heels for wedge booties if you still have snow on the ground where you are, and if you do, I am so sorry to hear that. No snow here in San Diego!

Who’s ready for color? That is a rhetorical question because by mid February, I am pretty sure we all are! This China Blue looks so good on everyone! It is my favorite go-to when a client needs to incorporate a pop of color to an almost all black wardrobe.  I am craving this faux wrap top right now to dress up or down. Shine is on trend this season so wear it and dazzle day and night!

Nothing says I am fun and fabulous like a drawstring bubble dress with pockets so you can be as sassy as you wanna be! To avoid looking like an actual bubble, add a wide belt to show off your waistline.  This piece is also cute worn open and styled like a jacket with jeans.

Are you already getting Save The Dates to spring wedding and events?  Me too. Don’t people know that I want to spend my Memorial Day weekend at the beach and not with 250 of their friends, family, and co-workers doing the Cupid Shuffle??? Don’t let the panic of what to wear as you RSVP  take up any of your mind space. You’ll need that focus when you are checking all of the gift registries.  For occasions that require a dress that are not of the dancing- all- night- and -bottles- of- Grey -Goose- with- sparklers variety, I am a fan of this elegant style with a beautiful scallop neckline.  I feel very sophisticated in this dress, but you will still find me line dancing with the rest of the party goers.

So what do you think? Which outfits are your fave?  Feel free to leave it in the comments. Click here for information on where to shop these looks. Please check out my Instagram @glamandsassy for more pics and outfit inspirations! W by Worth has everything I am looking for this spring. Fabulous fabrics,  beautiful color palettes and  body skimming silhouettes that make any woman feel Glam & Sassy, of course!

Cheers to Spring!

This calls for a Toast!
This calls for a Toast!
It is officially Spring! Time to shed heavy layers, open your windows, and be on the lookout for trees and flowers in bloom! Not quite there yet, east coast? Well, I am great at faking it and so can you! Lighten up your wardrobe…both fabrics and colors… and before you know it, you’ll have yourself believing spring has really come.

I LOVE buying for my Glam & Sassy collection and clients for this season. There is a plethora of pretty prints and flowy fabrics. Don’t be afraid to experiment with color! This is the perfect time to do it. Mix and match them too! You will look very trendy in sterling blue skinny jeans paired with a coral top so be bold and try something new! Find two colors that look great on you and then pull the look together with accessories in both colors. Now don’t you feel warmer already??? I’ll drink to that!

Letting Go

More Fun with a Friend!

Spring Fling
Spring Fling
March is here! For those of you not living in the part of the country that is winter-less, I know you are rejoicing at another turn of the calender page! Before moving to San Diego, I remember March being the light at the end of a very cold, very snowy, tunnel. It is also a great time to refresh our closets and get rid of the things we hadn’t worn since the Nor’easter of ’03. But for those of you who have trouble “letting go”, as I admittedly sometimes do, here are a few guidelines.

1) Team up! If it is too painful to watch your first button down that was there for you through every job interview and fave go-to date dress, end up in the Goodwill bag, enlist a friend or two for moral support. Pop some champagne and make it a party!

2)Leave the past in the past! Still clinging on to that comfy sweatshirt that you acquired from your ex? Get rid of it! Out with the old, in with the new! (that goes for the guy too!)

3) The 1-2 year rule! We have all heard that if you haven’t worn something in 1-2 years, that it is time to recycle it, and I agree. However, there are a few exceptions such as a treasured couture piece that one day will be trendy because it is borderline “vintage”. Also, I strongly believe you can keep one article of clothing that you wore in college that still fits. Bragging rights, ladies. Bragging rights!

4) Alter it! People may not change, but clothes can! (yet another reason I love fashion)! If there is anything taking up valuable real estate in your closet that you are not wearing because it does not fit properly, get it altered. A good tailor can shorten, take in, nip, tuck…oh wait, that’s a good surgeon and I’ll save that for another blog, but you get the idea!

5)Work with a stylist! Speaking from experience, if you let us do our job without getting you feelings hurt when we tell you “those baggy pants with the pinstripes have got to go!” you will have a closet full of clothes you actually wear and enjoy and isn’t that that point of fashion and being Glam & Sassy?
