Green With Envy

Hello Glam & Sassy loves! I just wrapped up showing the W by Worth Spring 2017 collection. I had so much fun styling my amazing clients in the hottest trends for the season. We were all ready, myself included, for a fresh start and new adventures. Changing of the seasons will do that to us Glam & Sassy girls and I absolutely embrace it! Once you get stuck in a rut, fashion or otherwise, the bravest thing you can do is decide to break away from it and take a chance on something new. Here are a few ways I suggest to make that happen.

Make a Clean Break:

Routines are nice and even necessary in some instances. However, fashion should never be mundane. You should change things up a bit from time to time. Don’t keep going back to an old standby just because it is what you are comfortable with. Have fun putting together outfits and add a few elements of surprise . A great way to do this is to mix textures and patterns. If you look at your clothes, and all you see are a bunch of solid colors (and I am going to guess mostly black) then there is no better time to add stripes and prints!  Both are very on trend and very Glam & Sassy.

The Grass is Absolutely Greener:

Another way to reawaken your wardrobe is to add color to your closet. The palettes right now are as vibrant as the season itself… Heat Red, Malibu Blue and Grass Green. The amazing thing is everyone I styled in these shades could wear them no matter what hair color or skin tone. Not only does that make my job easier, it makes getting dressed so enticing. Discovering you can have something you didn’t think you could is a great euphoria. Go after it and enjoy it.

Everything is Replaceable:

Every well planned wardrobe consists of basics. Basic tees, denim and blouses. Take a look at your essentials every spring and decide what needs updating. A tell tale sign something no longer needs to be in your life is if it no longer excites you. I was thrilled to find the perfect button down that was an improved version of what I already had.  Making the switch was a no brainer because I was definitely trading up!  If you worry that you might regret letting something go, I can assure you, you won’t. In fact, you will love your new additions so much, there will be virtually zero memory of what once was. Now go out and flaunt your new looks and make everyone wish they were as Glam & Sassy as you!

The Perfect Look

Hello Glam & Sassy loves.  How many times how you already heard “New Year, New You” and it is only mid January? I understand why the fresh turn of the calendar year makes us feel like we are embarking on a fresh start, but the truth is, we can reinvent ourselves at anytime. As a personal stylist, my mission is assisting women in achieving this goal. Some clients want me to put together an entire wardrobe and others just want a few improvements to their current style.  Either way, I am passionate about what I do, so here are a few ways I perfect a look.

Enjoy Multiples:

Two is better than one and three is better than…well you get the point. I tell clients all the time, once you find that perfect pant, shoe, basic top, etc. , get one in every color. If you don’t, inevitably you end up searching to  find something else you like just as much. We all know the likelihood of that is slim, so splurge now and save time later.  Here is a great example. I love this basic long sleeve “buy now wear now” top from W by Worth and love it even more that I get 12 times the fun with all these vibrant colors! Bring on the multiples because you are Glam & Sassy and deserve nothing less than the best…over and over again.

Something Special:

Once you are dressed, add one thing that would make it more special. I always add sparkle and bracelets are my accessory of choice. I stack bracelets like arm candy and yes it is totally ok to mix metals.  I am obsessed with this rose gold cuff from Kendra Scott. If you are not into jewelry (gasp!), add a scarf with the colors of your outfit to pull it all together.  When you are headed out for date night or girl’s night, please don’t even think about using your daily driver handbag. Instead, switch it up to a cute clutch or cross body. Nothing says high maintenance like a huge bag filled with useless items.  Don’t forget to spritz perfume in the air and walk into it before walking out the door. By the way, your bathroom vanity doesn’t have to look like the fragrance counter at Saks. Experiment to find one that works best with your body’s natural chemistry and make it your signature scent. When people ask what you’re wearing, feel free to not tell them. Remember, this is your little secret, ladies.

Own It:

I am a girly girl. Even though I can hang with the guys and was brought up around cars,  I am not really into sports (although I recently developed an interest for basketball).  I’m a huge fan of pink champagne and I prefer shopping to almost any other activity. I think of it as keeping up with industry trends and if some of them just happen to end up in my closet, then so be it.  However, what I enjoy dressing up (or down) in is not what I think everyone should wear.  The single most important element in perfecting your look is exactly that…make it yours. There is only one you and so many outfit choices, so be sure to choose the one that suits your personality and lifestyle. Then walk into any room and own it like any good Glam & Sassy would.

Pack Your Bags

Hello Glam & Sassy loves! I am writing this blog on my flight from LA to NYC. Since I have about 5 hours to kill, I thought I would use them to do something more productive than my usual guilty pleasure of scouring through trashy tabloids. I am super excited to touch down in the fashion capital of the world where I will be meeting with other fabulous stylists to preview Spring 2017 from the clothing company, W by Worth. I love travel, but no matter how many trips I take, packing is my biggest challenge. I typically begin the process at least 2 ½ days prior to departure and painstakingly plan out, which involves trying on, every outfit complete with shoes and accessories. I have found if I already have the perfect travel pieces in my closet, it saves a ton of time.  So I complied a few of my go-to looks that work (and play) on almost any trip.

Pack a Ponch:

Ponchos are not only very on trend, but are also the perfect travel companion. They are versatile, warm, and double as a blanket if you tend to freeze at 30,000 feet like I do. I love a pretty poncho to layer over anything from a dress to leather pants to jeans for a look that is instant chic. Like most of us, I wear A LOT of black. This black asymmetrical style with a crisp white border goes with about 90% of my outfits so I will be wearing it multiple times during my stay in the Big Apple.

Bow Down:

Sweaters are a necessity in fall fashion. So why not choose one that also has a cute design detail like bows. Bows are hot right now and I am obsessed with silk ones around my neck. This is such a sexy look, and all I need are earrings to accessorize. This wool v neck pullover was the style I had all of my clients try on during their fall wardrobe planning session. It comes in three amazing neutral colors, with cypress being my absolute fave, because it goes with everything I would pair with black, including black! Awesome! I chose this for travel because the luxurious wool blend is warm without the bulk…in my suitcase or on my body.

Slip it On:

As much as I love and live in my fave jeans, I am equally enamored by flirty dresses. Being the girly girl that I am, I always look forward to showing up at any occasion in a daring dress.   A slip dress is a must in every Glam & Sassy girls’ suitcase. Allow me to tell you why. This dress, known for its body skimming NOT hugging silhouette, makes it though the day then straight into evening. Style it with a jacket for a business meeting power suit alternative then soften her up with a scarf for dinner and drinks. I also will rock this dress on the weekend with comfortable knee high boots and throw on the above mentioned poncho for a casual look. See, that just took care of three outfits in one dress leaving room in my luggage for all the clothes I plan on buying in NYC!

I’d love to hear what your must have travel essentials are…especially if it is a bunch of trashy tabloids! Essentially Perfect

Hello Glam & Sassy loves! I just wrapped up showing the W by Worth Fall collection and styling 6-7 clients a day for 7 days. What I found to be most interesting wasn’t the more outrageous pieces that the ladies loved, but rather, what they all needed. The essentials.  So I started thinking about my own essentials which are, in no particular order, my dog, strong Italian coffee, working out, good music, family, friends who are like family, and anything pink. I add to this list whenever I discover something that makes me as happy as unexpected chance meetings.  For fall fashion, however, the list is a bit more universal and includes clothing every Glam & Sassy girl should have as part of her repertoire.

Staying Skinny:

I am pretty active.  Going to the gym is part of my daily routine and I also strive to hit 10,000 steps a day and dance whenever no one is watching, or even if everyone is, I don’t care. But I am good at it. So maybe that’s why.  The essential wardrobe skinny is actually in the form of a turtleneck. When I moved to beautiful, warm southern California from dreary, cold New Jersey, I was quick to donate any and all winter clothes. Now I realize we DO have a winter here, which happens when it reaches a chilly 60 degrees, so I need to replenish said clothing . This skinny turtleneck is perfect to wear alone and comes in so many yummy colors.  It is also a great layering piece under a jacket, sweater or poncho. Which brings me to my next item…take a guess!

W163_Trends_Everyshade_03

Cuddle Time:

This is not something I want to do if I am trying to fall asleep, but once in a while, like taking a nap in a freezing cold hotel room, I am all about it . Throw on a cozy W by Worth poncho with leggings and look super chic without even trying. Let’s be honest, there are days we all wish we could stay wrapped up under our blanket. When you wear a luxurious poncho, “essentially” you are.

Feel like a Champion:

Just like there’s nothing a little lipstick can’t fix, the same is true of our favorite jeans. Find your right fit and when you slide them on, you will feel like you are on top.  My absolute obsession is Frame denim. Although I currently prefer dark, any wash can be dressed up with a sexy top and heels. You can also just keep things casual until you see how much you really like them. If you find yourself wanting to be in them from day to night, then you may have just found your match.  Which of these essentials are perfect for you this season to be Glam & Sassy?!?  I’d love to hear your comments and also check out https://www.instagram.com/glamandsassy/ for more must have looks!

Block ‘Em

Hello Glam & Sassy loves! Who agrees that the block feature may be the greatest thing since our cell phones?  If you have utilized it, you probably wonder how you ever got by without it. From an annoying telemarketer to an even more annoying ex, blocking them protects you from the crazy.  The beauty of this feature is that the person on the “block you” end, receives no indication that they have been shunned from your life.  They are just out there trying to feverishly contact you wondering why you are not responding. It would be cruel except they usually deserve it.  I’ve only used it on very rare occasions but the peace that follows makes me very grateful to the techies at Apple who created it. Some people could benefit from a reverse blocking feature that would require a complicated pass code or , I don’t know, maybe a breathalyzer, before being able to send OUTGOING messages. You know who are.  In regards to fashion, color blocking is very on trend for fall. Here are a few ways to block effectively .

Top to Bottom:

Color blocking on the top and bottom gives the eye maximum pleasure. The key is to choose two pieces with coordinating color combinations and sleek shape.  This merino wool long skirt  and pullover makes a power couple with a bold stripe on each. It is a flattering fit and also feels amazing because the fabric is ribbed for our pleasure.

W163_Lookbook_51

Flatter Yourself:

Hey, if you don’t do it, how you can expect anyone else to?  In color blocking, it is important to choose a pattern that has blocks in all the right places. I love this slightly cropped top  styled with solid black pants or slim skirt for a professional look and it creates the perfect silhouette…not that you don’t already have one.

W - Looks for Business Tips 0719_02

Bold Girl:

Contrasting colors that are reminiscent of the 80’s are back and better than ever (no neons this time around). This W by Worth ponte dress is a striking combo of black and rhubarb that knows how to tease, tempt and flaunt.  I would rock this dress from the office with pumps to date night with sexy OTK boots and walk home in the morning with zero shame. As long as we keep it classy ladies, we’ll always be Glam & Sassy.

Element of Surprise

Hello Glam & Sassy loves!  I love being surprised.  I love surprise gifts, surprise parties (even if they aren’t for me), and surprise love affairs. The latter being a surprise because they say it happens when you least expect it.  Try surprising yourself once in a while. Go for that extra cardio burn that you didn’t think you could endure or apply for that promotion and land it!  It is pure exhilaration and it can be quite addicting and the reason we keep searching for our next high! I get a similar feeling when I am styling my clients and make them try a style they think they could never wear. And they can. And they end up loving it. In sticking with today’s theme, here are a few fashion trends with an element of surprise!

Role Reversal:

I am considered to be very girly.  I work in fashion, my nails are always done, and my fave color is pink…’nuff said! However, I have the mental toughness of a dude and will be a boss in order to get stuff handled.  That’s what makes us Glam & Sassy, right ladies?!? If we can do a total 180 throughout any given day transitioning from work to play, so should our outfit! This season, I am searching for pieces that I can get leverage out of. I certainly do not NEED anything, so I am only interested in things that add value to my life and my wardrobe.  Let’s talk about this hot tank dress, shall we?  I actually do NEED this in my life! I love this dress because it is body skimming, not body hugging, which means you can wear it to work with a jacket and it looks polished and professional.  I appreciate anything that can stand on its own too, and this dress is the perfect one piece outfit to slip into if you want a more body baring look. Get even more surprising use out of it by styling with OTK boots in the fall or open toe heels right now. This dress is a must have and will keep surprising you all year!

W163_Lookbook_56

Two is Better Than One:

Anyone who is in a (happy) relationship knows this to be true.  It occurred to me, the next garment I come home with should give me double the pleasure.  I am sure there is an app for that, but I easily found these duos in the W by Worth fall collection. These fabulous tops are fully reversible, and not one side with a color you would never dream of wearing. They have two beautiful colors that you will rock AND post on IG twice and no one would know you were photographed in the same top ! Surprise!!!

W163_Trends_Everyshade_02

Shock Value:

The only time we make it an absolute no -no for our guy to see what were are wearing is on our wedding day. How unfortunate. I think we need to make them wait for the big reveal as much as possible. Date night. For sure. Bed time. Absolutely.  How much more exciting things would be if we kept our outfit a surprise until he lays eyes on us.  It puts the fun back into getting dressed…and later undressed (wink).  If you are looking for your next jaw dropping outfit, go all out. Make it sexy. Make it short. And make it count! If you are often in black, show up in an unexpected color like red. If you live in your fave jeans, even if your booty looks ah-mazing in them, show some leg in a dress. And if you don’t have a date, don’t worry. Someone will be sure to be looking at you …because you are Glam & Sassy!

Take a Bite

Hello Glam & Sassy loves! Anyone who has been to New York knows the endless amount of fun and excitement that it offers.  It is also the fashion capital of the world so that alone makes it one of my favorite cities.  I worked many years in fashion in the Big Apple so I look forward to getting back as much as possible now that I live on the opposite coast. I actually  just returned from a fabulous trip there to preview the W by Worth fall collection and I had no idea I could get so excited over a cool weather season in the middle of summer! As soon as I saw the versatile styles and felt the luxe fabrics, I was ready to come back to the 80 degree heat and start styling my clients for the months ahead.  Since I am all about instant glamification, I thought it best to start with the buy-now-wear-now styles we can rock in July and straight into fall.  Here are the styles you need not wait until September to enjoy.

Tastefully Bare:

During this sizzling season, we want to wear the least amount of clothing as possible…at least in public:)   I found some sexy sleeveless tops that I am having fun with now and also later in the year as layering pieces.  I am all about showing some skin but doing it with class.  A cute little cami or a beautiful drapey cowl neck tank are both perfect picks. The fabrics are as soft as our summer skin and the styles are year round appropriate. I am putting my clients, and myself, in these right away to ensure maximum enjoyment and plenty of room to go back for seconds and thirds!

Yummy Colors:

Summer is the season of color.  The palettes may change every year, but it is always lip smacking and refreshing after a long winter.  If you choose your colors right, you won’t be limited to wearing them just when the sun is out and the temps are high. Looking ahead to fall, we are seeing splashes of bold colors such as Chili and Royal Blue.  I am loving dresses in these color pops because they are easy to style now with a beige heel and later with a black boot. Which one do you crave?FullSizeRender(9)

Unwrap and Enjoy:

For all the ladies who hustle in their careers and social lives like me, I found something I have been looking for for a long time.  Check out this blouse that is professional for work, yet flirty enough for date night.  It is a faux wrap so it stays perfectly in place with just the slightest hint of a peek.  This unique combination of sophistication and sexiness is what makes this top, and all of us ladies, Glam & Sassy !

The Non-Negotiables

Hello Glam & Sassy loves!  As we gain experience in life, we discover things we need to be happy.  This is true of relationships, careers, and hobbies. It is also the case in our wardrobes. No self respecting woman would settle for anything less than a closet containing certain key pieces.  In defining the non-negotiables/ essentials/ must have’s…they are items that are high in quality, versatile, and long lasting. Commitment-phobes need not continue to read because it only makes sense to invest if the plan is to keep them around for while.  Now that you  have gotten rid of those things in your closet that have been taking up space since reading my last blog, Breaking Up, you are ready to replace with clothing that is actually worthy of you.

The Perfect Partner:

For those of you who remember the movie, Jerry McGuire, the line “You complete me” had ladies swooning.  Are you looking for YOUR perfect missing piece? I suggest something versatile enough to wear as a power suit with pants, a classic look with a skirt, or casual with jeans. A perfectly proportioned jacket with a flattering cut and beautiful fabric will check all these boxes.  If your budget allows you to invest in only one, then black is the obvious choice for a polished look.  Since you will want to wear it year round, choose a cotton/ viscose blend that won’t be too hot in the summer and the bonus is this fabric also travels well and who doesn’t love to travel!  I am obsessed with this Tonal Mini Jacquard jacket from W by Worth.  With it’s subtle sheen, it is sure to outshine the rest.

W162_Closets_Great331_04

Trade Up:

I am going to skip the LBD as I feel it is safe to assume we all have at least two, and if we are being honest, the actual number is the that times three. So before you allow yourself to be tempted by yet another, go for something you will wear again and again, a little white dress.  A white dress for spring and summer is so fresh and bold. It will definitely stand out among the sea of black.  Accessories will change the look from day to evening , as will shoes. Stop the insanity of being attracted to something similar to what you just purged from your life, and go with the complete opposite. It will be a refreshing change and you will love the stretch in this cotton denim dress as show off your new look.

W162_Closets_Dresses_04

Head Turner:

Another must have, at least for me, is attraction.  This is a non-negotiable for sure! Call me shallow, but I crave anything that is appealing to the eye. What is the point of getting dressed, if your outfit doesn’t turn a few heads? Novelty prints and basic silhouettes are fine, but to up your wow factor, experimentation is key. Try one of this season’s trends, off the shoulder tops. So soft. So sexy. So easy to style with jeans, joggers, or shorts.  Slip into one before you slip out the door and just watch what happens when you look Glam & Sassy .

Dress You Up

Hello Glam & Sassy loves!  If there is one thing we never outgrow, it is playing dress up.  I used to love as a little girl, playing in my mom’s closet, putting on her jewelry (usually all at once) and trying to walk around in her pumps.  Thankfully, I accessorize better than I did when I was 6 and can get around with much more grace in heels.  Otherwise, not much has changed!   As a personal shopper and stylist for my business, Glam & Sassy, I dress my clients and I get a huge satisfaction from seeing them smile when they know they look good!  I still enjoy being on the receiving end of this process and I found this fantastic boutique, Social Butterflies LA, with the cutest clothes and accessories. Now it was my turn to be styled by the fabulous owner and jewelry designer, Michelle Roy.  So! Much! Fun!  While I was there, I tried on a variety of holiday looks that I wanted to share with all of you, my wonderful blog followers and friends!

Multiples? Yes please!

Who doesn’t love the excitement of knowing  multiples are possible?   While playing around in the boutique, my fingers caressed this wonderfully soft, cozy poncho.  I am all about ponchos this season as a very chic layering piece.  Michelle then showed me all the ways this garment can be worn…I was tied, wrapped and draped!  So many different uses and looks out of this one luxurious item. I love the versatility and knowing I can wear it and re-wear it to dinner, drinks, and even a movie (why is it 32 degrees in every theatre!) and always look different!  My favorite is the off-the-shoulder look. Which way would you wear it the most?

Opposites Attract

Holidays equal sequins. Period.  Don’t get me wrong, I will wear sequins and sparkle all year, but for those of you who save your shine for December and New Year’s, your time has come!  The key to styling a fully embellished top or bottom, is to keep the rest of your outfit simple.  Stay away from pairing sequins with silk or satin or (gasp!) other sequins to avoid looking overdone. The contrast of a sequined skirt with a casual tee is super chic and super Glam & Sassy.  This is the perfect look for a party and no one will mistake you for the disco ball.

My Two Fave “F” Words

Fringe and Feathers! Both are huge trends for holiday and  I gave in to my addiction for them at Social Butterflies LA.   I couldn’t resist this black and white daisy print cocktail dress trimmed in fringe.  To give it more of an edge, I styled it with my go-to shoe of the moment, peep toe booties (check out the blog if you somehow missed it and you’ll understand).   I am thinking I will wear this for NYE. I don’t have plans yet, but I have my perfect dress! Then I put on a  white feather jacket with my boyfriend jeans and fell in love with the flirt factor of  it all.  One look in the mirror and I was saying another one  of my favorite “F” words…  FABULOUS!!!
